Flooding Fears Outside St. Peters Subside For Now

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI)-Many area river communities are still on the flood watch.  The latest area facing a flood threat is outside St. Peters, MO in St. Charles County. It had been the same old drill for the Conoyers; packing belongings from their house Friday into a trailer bound for higher ground.

Gene Conoyer says the water has been one to six feet high inside his house in years past.  All the signs seemed to be pointing toward major flooding again this weekend.

Silvers Road is closed; Highway C nearby is underwater, too.  And the view from his yard was calling to mind the great floods of `73, `93, and `08; when water over the roads also meant water in his house.

Jaco Report: May 5, 2013

(KTVI)-On the Jaco Report, second amendment advocates have been attacking Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s administration for sharing information about people who hold concealed carry permits with the federal government. That, in turn, led to a barrage of TV ads calling the governor “Wrong Way Jay”. They charge that Nixon broke the law. But critics say the gun advocates are paranoid and are making up a fantasy about the Obama administration possibly seizing guns. We look at that and talk to the man behind the mysterious group called United For Missouri that is running the ads. Who are their donors? What’s their agenda?

Rain Swells Streams In St. Charles County

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – Dardenne Creek in the St. Peters area was rising fast Friday after a day of soaking rains. It was expected to crest at about 23 feet Friday. The potential of major flooding had a lot of residents worried about their homes.

“We moved everything out of our basement and put it in a trailer on higher ground,” Eugene Conoyer said. “We just hope it stops raining.”

Conoyer said this is the third time he has had to pack up everything in his basement to avoid flood water.

“In 1993 we had a few feet in the house, and in 2008 we had several inches,” he said. “We are just hoping none gets in this time.”

Dardenne Creek is filled with broken tree branches and other debris, which is also causing residents some concern.

“It could just make a huge mess of things,” Conoyer said.

National Weather Service Cuts Could Impact Quality Of Warnings

ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI)– Heavy rain is sending the Dardenne Creek into major flood in St. Charles County.

The Dardenne Creek is already way up so far Friday since the rain started falling.

In O`Fallon the creek is still just within its banks, but the water is nowhere near done rising.

A hydrograph from the National Weather Service shows the rapid rise in the creek since early Friday morning, with the latest stage of about 18 feet.  Now the National Weather Service is forecasting major flooding along the creek with a rise of at least another 5 feet by midnight.

River flood warnings and severe and tornado warnings that come from the National Weather Service may be in jeopardy as a result of impending cuts tied to the sequester.
