FHN Teacher's Request for Leave Denied by District

Newly-elected State Rep. Bryan Spencer, R-District 63, worked his last day as a special education teacher for Francis Howell North High School on Jan. 7 and was sworn in as a state legislator on Jan. 9. 

Now he's fighting to be granted an unpaid leave of absence by the Francis Howell Board of Education which has twice denied his request, he said.

Officials: Personal Information Probably Not Compromised in Hacker Attack

If you tried to access the home pages of the St. Charles County assessor, sheriff, elections or finance department in the early-morning hours of Jan. 8, you probably saw a message that said "hacked by Hmei7."

The local government website was one of more than 5,000 sites world-wide that suffered the attack.

St. Charles Woman Wins FBI Recognition

Tuesday, Dean C. Bryant, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI St. Louis Division, presented the 2012 Director's Community Leadership Award to Kimberly Ritter, of St. Charles, at a surprise ceremony. Ritter was honored for her efforts to protect children from sex trafficking.

Police Bicycle Patrols Debut at Trick-or-Treat on Main Street Event

While on duty Wednesday, St. Charles Police Officer Pete Sansone pedaled down Main Street past a trick-or-treating Darth Vader, a lady bug and a lion. 

St. Charles Police Department on Wednesday debuted a new initiative to use police officers on bicycle patrol in the historic downtown area.

City of St. Charles to Hold Annual Surplus Sale on Sunday

City of St. Charles to Hold Annual Surplus Sale on Sunday

The city of St. Charles is having its annual surplus sale on Sunday, October 21.

The event will be held at the St. Charles City Hall located at 200 North Second Street starting at noon. The event will conclude when the auctioneer runs through all available items; cars and trucks will be auctioned last.

All property must be removed from the premises the day of the auction. Viewing of the sale merchandise will be held from 10am to noon the day of the auction only.

Mayor Names Rick Daly New Fire Chief

Rick Daly was named Interim Fire Chief for St. Charles Sept. 11; less than a month later, the city council approved his appointment as Fire Chief. 

Daly is expected to be sworn in as fire chief Nov. 6. His starting salary will be $120,000.

The St. Charles County Council, at a special meeting Saturday morning, decided to stand by its original bill calling for a charter amendment in the form of a ballot proposition concerning a countywide ban on smoking in enclosed public places.
