Car Giveaway Urges More Focused Driving

Some lucky person will get an extra Christmas present as part of an awareness campaign to discourage distracted driving across the state.  The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety has teamed with up with KRCG-TV and Joe Machens Ford to sponsor “Focus on the Road” which includes a chance to win a new 2012 Ford Focus.
        To enter the drawing, visit our “Focus on the Road MO” fan page on Facebook before midnight on Dec. 14.  The drawing is open to all licensed Missouri drivers.  Employees and family of KRCG-TV, Joe Machens and MoDOT are ineligible.  The winner will be announced on Monday, December 19 when 13 finalists will try their key in the new car to find the winner.

Volunteers Needed To Help Clean Up The Missouri River

The Great Rivers Greenway District is encouraging area residents to join them on Saturday, Oct. 29, and help support Missouri River Relief in its effort to clear trash and debris from the shores of the Missouri River. The Confluence Clean-up, which is the last scheduled event of Missouri River Relief's month-long, statewide effort to clear litter from the Missouri River, aims to clean up the area near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Volunteers will be ferried by boat starting at 9 a.m. to different riverbanks and islands along the Missouri River to pick up trash that has washed ashore. Additional volunteers are encouraged to clean up trash along the trails and parking lots of this area.

Turn in Unused Drugs At Justice Center On Oct. 29

If you have some old medicines that you’d like to safely dispose, mark Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, on your calendar. St. Peters police will be accepting prescription and over-the-counter drugs at the St. Peters Justice Center during this day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The public can bring medications—no questions asked—to the Justice Center lobby during this time as part of the National Rx Take Back Event.

The Justice Center is at the corner of Grand Teton Drive and Suemandy Drive near Mid Rivers Mall.

Police cannot accept any medications before or after the event, so be sure to drop off your drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Recycling Center Now Accepts Plastic & CFLs

Both of the St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment’s Recycle Works locations now accept small batches of plastic material and undamaged fluorescent bulbs from residents at no cost.  Recycle Works Central (in St. Charles) and Recycle Works West (in Wentzville) complement the efforts of area curbside collectors to efficiently process recyclable materials for transition into raw materials.

State Seeking Public Input For 3 St. Louis Area Parks

State Seeking Public Input For 3 St. Louis Area Parks

The public is invited to bring their ideas about area state parks and historic sites to a meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site in St. Charles. In addition to First Missouri State Capitol, the meeting will discuss Edward "Ted" and Pat Jones-Confluence Point State Park in West Alton and the eastern portion of Katy Trail State Park.

During the meeting, staff will discuss current operations and future plans for the parks and site. The public is encouraged to ask questions and provide input.
