From High School Dropout To Missouri-Recognized Top Educator

Dr. Debra Peppers was a high-school dropout and troubled youth who overcame the many obstacles in her path to achieve tremendous success as a teacher. She earned a doctorate, induction into the Teacher Hall of Fame, and eventually taught on the masters level.

Visiting schools all over the world has allowed her to share her insights through many cultures. Most recently, Dr. Peppers founded pepperseed.org to help motivate others to overcome their obstacles and achieve success.

St. Charles School Board Votes to Raise Lunch Prices

The St. Charles City School Board met Thursday night and after new member Marita Malone was sworn in and new officers were elected, the board, led by its new president Dale Hallemeier, approved a list of summer maintenance projects and a price increase for school meals for 2013-2014.

Representatives from Chartwell's, the district's meal program vendor, offered a presentation to the board that included changes necessitated by the 2010 Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Metro St. Louis Cinderella Project Sets Up at Mid Rivers Mall

Ben Trotter, 22, tried to organize an armful of glittery, beaded prom dresses by color at the Metro St. Louis Cinderella boutique in Mid Rivers Mall Tuesday.

Trotter was one of several students from the Art Institute of St. Louis in St. Charles who came out to help set up the boutique. During the next two weeks, girls who would not otherwise have the chance to go to prom will get to pick out a prom dress for free.

FHN Teacher's Request for Leave Denied by District

Newly-elected State Rep. Bryan Spencer, R-District 63, worked his last day as a special education teacher for Francis Howell North High School on Jan. 7 and was sworn in as a state legislator on Jan. 9. 

Now he's fighting to be granted an unpaid leave of absence by the Francis Howell Board of Education which has twice denied his request, he said.

A video showing the ways students with disabilities are included in activities at St. Charles West High School was selected as the grand prize winner in a competition sponsored by the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council.

St. Charles Community College 25th Anniversary Tree Planting

St. Charles Community College will close out its 25th anniversary year with a tree planting ceremony. The ceremony will celebrate the accomplishments of the college and provide a glimpse into its plans for a successful future.

The 25th anniversary was celebrated from April 2011 to June 2012.

The tree planting will be:
10:00-10:30am Saturday, June 16, 2012

Computers and other hardware valued at more than $13,000 was stolen from Duchesne High School overnight between June 5 and 6.
